Wednesday June 15th. Cruising to Thrup

Rainy day Wednesday. I did my usual routine of cooking breakfast and a short morning walk up to the pub to post yesterday's blog. 

We shoved off around 10:00 am. Not far down the canal we encountered our first of two locks for the day, as well as the first rain drops. Rain drops turned into a steady rain that dampened our spirits just a bit.

We arrived in Thrup around 11:30. We needed to top off our water tank before heading on. Our last water stop, because of the other boats waiting their turn, we only added water to the tank for 20 minutes.

Thrupp has a nice water point with trash and recycle bins. It took a little over an hour to fill out tank. Fortunately there were two water points and only one other boat stopped for water. The time gave us time to eat a quick sandwich with prawn and cocktail flavored crisps.

 

With our tank full, we made a sharp right turn under a lift bridge that Sherri operated.

 

We only moved a few hundred yards past the bridge when we came across a very nice mooring. Mooring rings and a pub a couple hundred yards away, what could be better. Notice the rain has stopped and the sun is shining. 

 

We walked the 4 miles round trip into Kidlington for a few provisions. 

We tried to figure out the bus system for a ride back. After a bit of a tongue lashing for flagging down the wrong bus, we decided to walk back. Our timing was good as we just beat a thunderstorm back to the boat. 

The first picture below is one of the small terrace cottages. Look closely and you will see a very lonely looking dog in the window. He was obviously missing his owner.

Tomorrow is a day of rest. The boat will stay moored. We might take a short side trip to Blenheim Palace which was home of Winston Churchill.
